Life is a Game

Sometimes, as we ascend the ladder of success in matters of personal interest, the Universe demands a lot of energy from us. It consumes every bit of our brain space with background processing, even as our conscious mind manages the day-to-day matters of life.

Every step we take up the stairs fills us with pride and joy. And why not? After all, it took effort to get there. Most of the time, these pursuits are solitary struggles to gain more and more of whatever interests us. As a result, the joy of getting there carries us to dizzying heights in outer space. Isn’t it such a wonderful feeling?

What we don’t realize in those seemingly everlasting moments of exhilaration is that what we accomplished was just level one of the game. Now we are at the doorstep of level two.

What now? What next? Do we even realize our predicament? Are we prepared for what lies ahead? Maybe we are still celebrating, but it’s time to grope in the darkness for the syllabus for the next exam.

We’ve gone so far ahead that ground realities are blurred into patches of colour. Matters no longer have different points of view; it’s just an opinion, and that is my opinion. Issues are no longer multi-dimensional; they are all flat and single-faced, without even the flipside to this face. Strange!

It’s as though we’d forgotten the alphabet and spellings of words. It’s no longer critical because autocorrect handles it. We forget that the buildings stand on their foundations, the trees are held by their roots. Ground realities matter! Basic principles are the building blocks of our ideas, inventions, theories, and beliefs. It’s important not to lose sight of this point. That’s level 2 of the game.

Today, if we observe the world around us, the people around us, and those that we interact with, I feel sad to say that we are failing miserably. In all matters, be it religion, politics, health, family, education, moral values, culture, etc., we are becoming more and more mean, self-centered, and inhumane. As Martian energy takes over the minds of humanity, look what we are doing! We are cutting down the tree’s trunk because it’s hindering its chances of taking flight. What madness! I can’t help laughing.

My intuition tells me there is going to be a great big fall as the game ends abruptly in the middle. When this happens, will we land on our feet, fall flat on our nose, or dive headfirst? For now, I am keeping my fingers crossed and keeping prayers up. God save us all. 🙏
